| The value represents the increase you get from spending one skill point on level up. You can spend up to three skill points per level on each skill. The number of skill points you receive is based on the characters Learning attribute (Skill Points = 7 + TRUNC(Learning/4) ). See the skill descriptions below this chart for information on each skill. | ||||||||||

| The attribute(s) listed next to the skills are the attributes that effect the skills. Increasing these attributes will increase the associated skill(s). Increasing the attribute by one point will have the following effect: | ||||||||||
| Single attribute = +3.5 | ||||||||||
| Primary attribute (attribute with a +) = +2.5 | ||||||||||
| Secondary attribute (attribute with a -) = +1 | ||||||||||
| Dual attribute = +2 | ||||||||||
| Skill Descriptions | ||||||||||
| Combat Skill | ||||||||||
| <All weapon> | Increases your accuracy and damage when using the specified weapon. | |||||||||
| Throwing | Increases your accuracy and damage when throwing a weapon. | |||||||||
| Shield | Increases the Defense Bonus you get when using a shield. You get +1 DB for every 10 points in the Shield skill you have when a shield is equipped. | |||||||||
| Misc Skills | ||||||||||
| Dodge | Increasing Dodge increases your Defense Bonus. You get +1 DB for every 5 points in dodge. | |||||||||
| Kicking | Increases your chance of Kicking open a door or chest. This skill is really only required if you don't have a character with a good Lockpick skill. The disadvantages to using this skill is that it doesn't open some doors, and there is a chance to break items contained in chests when you kick them open. To use the skill, press 'k' and then the direction you want to kick. | |||||||||
| Toughness | Increases your hit points. You get about 1 hit point for every 3 points of Toughness. A good skill to dump points in for melee and really anyone that can spare the points. | |||||||||
| Trading | Helps you buy low and sell high. Make sure the character with the highest
Trading skill initiates conversation with any merchants you are going to do
business with. You only need one
character with this skill, and I recommend having someone get it as high as
possible since you will never have enough money. The merchants in the town of Odrewold will pay much more for
items and sell items for much less than other towns. The numbers listed below are a sample at a
particular merchant. The higher you raise the skill, the less the increase will do for you. For example at a Trading skill of 20, you will get about 25% of an item's value when selling the item, at 80 you'll get about 38%, at 140 you'll get about 43%, and at 200 you'll get about 47%. Same with buying, at a skill of 20 you'll pay about 420% more to buy an item, at 80 you'll pay about 320%, at 140 you'll pay about 280%, and at 200 you'll pay about 250%. |
|||||||||
| Stealing | Increases your chance to pickpocket. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be anyone with anything in their pockets, so you can ignore this skill. | |||||||||
| Hunting | Increases your chance of finding food when you hunt. I find that hunting in a forest produces more than on a road or grass lands. That could just be my perception though. To hunt, just press 'h' when in the world map. Useful for one character to have. The higher the skill the more chance that you'll find something. You probably don't need to add skill points to this skill, just use the character with the highest starting value. When you get a Priest that can cast Create Food, you won't need this skill anymore, but that will be later in the game since Create Food is a high level spell. | |||||||||
| Detecting | Increases your chance of detecting traps before you walk over them. There aren't that many traps in the game, so this skill is pretty much optional. If it detected secret doors, it would be much more useful, but it doesn't seem to do that. If you want it, only one character really needs it. This is actually a good skill to give to your Mage. Mages typically have more skill points than they know what to do with, so dumping them into Detecting is a good way to use those extra skill points. | |||||||||
| Lockpicks | Increases your chance to pick a locked door or chest. To use the skill, you'll need to have a set of lockpicks in your inventory, then press 'P' followed by the direction you want to pick. You can repeat this as much as necessary to open the lock. Raising this skills makes it less tiresome to open locks. Useful to have one character to have, add skill points to this if you don't want to retry so much. | |||||||||
| Swimming | Helps you move when in water. This is only needed when fighting in water. There aren't that many water fights though, so you can probably ignore this skill. When you get the Levitate spell, you can cast it on your characters so they can float above the water. Also, Fairies don't need this skill since they fly and Golems don't breathe so they don't need it either. | |||||||||
| Blacksmith | Increases your chance of repairing a broken item. Useful for one character to have. Similar to Lockpicks, you can try repeatedly until it works with no detrimental affect. To use it, press 'B'. This will open your inventory and you can pick the item to try to repair. This is also the only non-combat skill that gives experience when you use it. You get 100 xp every time you fix a broken item. | |||||||||
| Music | I think this increases your chance of getting a higher level spell off when you use an instrument. I don't think it affects the chance of actually getting a spell off. To use it, select an instrument from your inventory and press 'u' to use it. Different instruments don't make any difference. | |||||||||
| Spell Skills | ||||||||||
| Magic | The higher the skill, the higher your chance of successfully casting Magic spells. Higher level spells or spells at higher multipliers require a higher Magic skill to cast reliably. | |||||||||
| Prayer | The higher the skill, the higher your chance of successfully casting Prayer spells. Higher level spells or spells at higher multipliers require a higher Prayer skill to cast reliably. | |||||||||
| Alchemy | Increases your chance to brew a potion. To use this skill, you'll need an empty potion bottle in your inventory. Then press 'A' to bring up a spell list and select the spell you want to put in the potion. | |||||||||
| Scribing | Increases your chance to scribe a scroll. To use this skill, you'll need a blank scroll in your inventory. Then press 'S' to bring up a spell list and select the spell you want to scribe into the scroll. | |||||||||
